Deborah "Debbie" Artle Cooper, 59, of Cabot, Ark., died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010. She was born May 25, 1951, to the late Marvin and Billie Jo May Cooper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Timothy Cooper Sr. Debbie earned her bachelors and masters degrees in social work from UALR and served as the executive director for Little Rock Rape Crisis Center and SCAN, an agency serving abused children. Debbie was also an adjunct professor for Park University at Little Rock Air Force Base and an independent therapist and home study consultant for adoptions. She assisted in managing her father's construction business and worked briefly at the Cabot Public Library as the children's story time organizer. Debbie ended her career working for Arkansas Hospice as a supervising social worker. An accomplished pianist and composer, Debbie performed with Full Circle, Three Fat Girls and several other bands. She was a gifted pool player, a talented painter, a poet, and at the time of her death, she was writing a novel. She was a member of the National Organization for Women and maintained an extensive network of friends. She is survived by her companion, Kae Chatman; her sister, Marva Verkler (Paul); four nieces and nephews, Jennifer Nickerson (Scott), Tim Cooper (Ryann), Jeremy Verkler and Joseph Cooper; four great-nieces and nephews, Hailey Cooper, Tucker Cooper, Ava Nickerson and Dylan Verkler. A Christian funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home Chapel. A service of remembrance will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, also at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore's Cabot Funeral Home (501)843-5816.
