Gerald B. "Gerry" Robins

Dr. Gerald B. "Gerry" Robins, of Kingsville, Texas, a former President of Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M University-Kingsville), passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2010. He was born in Salem, Arkansas on January 24, 1924 to the late Lucille Burns Robins and Gerald A. Robins of Little Rock, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Fay Kennan Robins and children, Gerald K. Robins and James D. Robins, and his brother, Richard A. Robins and his wife, Betty Robins of North Little Rock, Arkansas. Gerry attended Little Rock Junior College on a Donaghey Scholarship and was later recognized as a distinguished alumnus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He received his BS and MS, with honors, from the University of Arkansas, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma, and his Ed. D. from the University of Georgia. He served in the military in World War II as a combat navigator on a B-17, was awarded the Air Medal, and retired from the reserves as Lt. Colonel. He served 13 years as president of Augusta College in Augusta, Georgia and four years as president of Texas A&I (now known as Texas A&M University-Kingsville). He served for 62 years as an active Rotarian in Arkansas, Georgia and Texas, from local club president to International Institute instructor. He was an active life-long member of the United Methodist church. A memorial for Gerry Robins will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Kingsville, Texas on December 4, 2010 at 3 p.m., with a reception following.
