James "J.T." Harris, age 91, of Benton, passed away Monday, October 4, 2010. He was born December 21, 1918 in Saline County, Arkansas. Mr. Harris retired from the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a bridgeman and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of Grape Chapel Church of God, 32nd Degree Mason and an active member of Benton Senior Adult Center. Mr. Harris worked on antique clocks and maintained the courthouse clock in Benton for over 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Bessie Harris; first wife, Juanita Harris; brother, Charlie Harris and an infant sister. He is survived by his wife, Violet Marie Harris; daughter, Carolyn Pettus and husband Dillard; granddaughters, Jacqueline Parker and husband Wayne and Stacey Thompson; great-grandchildren, Garrett and Korie Parker; step-children, Doris Nutt and husband Sonny, Jane Garrett and husband Larry, Larry Wood and wife Judy, David Wood and wife Pam and Tim Wood and wife Karen; brother, Roscoe Harris and wife Joann; sisters, Eppie Barnette and Ruby Nalley and husband John; 11 step-grandchildren; 22 step great-grandchildren; one step great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 6 at Ashby Funeral Home with burial at Old Union Cemetery. Rev. Rick Dunn will be officiating. Online guest book at www.ashbyfuneralhome.com.
