John Mormon

Mr. John Mormon, 87, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, October 6, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana. Mr. Mormon was a native and raised in Snyder. He attended Portland High School and he was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II. He lived in West Texas and Eldorado, Texas for a number of years and moved back to Hamburg in 1988. He was a retired heavy equipment operator, a Baptist, a Shriner and a member of the Portland Masonic Lodge #499 having received his 50 year pin. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Johnnie Whitten Mormon in 1980; his parents, James Wister & Minnie Jones Mormon; three sisters, Grace Crosby Elton, Jessie Gober & Martha Wall. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary Ann Tumlison Gwin Mormon of Hamburg; a son, John Whitten Mormon of Waco, Texas; a daughter, Marilyn Joy Wood of Sonora, Texas; five step-sons, James Gwin of Montrose, Richard Gwin, Bobby Joe Gwin & Donald Ray Gwin all of Hamburg and Carl John Gwin of Crossett; two step-daughters, Pat Thompson and Paula Ladd both of Hamburg; a sister, Jean Shelton of Hamburg; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nine step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 10 a.m., Friday, in the chapel of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home. Graveside services are 3 p.m., Sunday, in the Eldorado Cemetery in Eldorado, Texas. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Saturday at the Kerbow Funeral Home in El Dorado, Texas. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.
