Virgie Howard, 84, of Bryant, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2010. She was born June 20, 1926, in Newark, Arkansas, to the late Harrison Theodore and Minnie Mae Watts. Virgie enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and bluegrass music festivals. She was a long-time member of First Southern Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Talmadge Howard; and brother and sister-in-law, Van and Doris Watts. Survivors include two step sons, Larry Howard and wife Dianne of Little Rock, and David Howard and wife Charlene of Benton; one step daughter, Kansie Howard of Little Rock; one niece, Helen Smith and husband Steve of Shelby, North Carolina; cousin, Orbra Hawkins and wife Mamie of Newark, Arkansas; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and 23 great-nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2010, at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Funeral Home, 10200 Hwy. 5 North, Alexander (501-455-1067). Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2010, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Ward Cemetery, Strawberry, Arkansas.
