William Ross Johnson, 89, of Quitman, passed away Wed., Oct. 27, 2010. Born in Scott County, AR, on August 10, 1924, he was a son to the late Walter M. and Myrtle (Smith) Johnson. Ross was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, an accomplished guitarist who enjoyed entertaining crowds in his community and the surrounding areas, an avid fisherman and a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. He was a disabled Army veteran of WWII, having served in Italy , where he was captured by the Germans and held as a prisoner of war for seven months. Ross worked at International Shoe Company in Conway for 27 years and at Universal Nolen for six years. Ross was a perpetual member of the Holland Masonic Lodge #158, a lifelong member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the AX-POW organizatio. Ross was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents; a son William Ross Johnson Jr.; three half-brothers: Arnold, Arlon and Roy Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Geneva (Flowers) Johnson; grandson, Eric B. Johnson of Quitman; granddaughter, Amanda Johnson McKinney and husband Michael, of Little Rock; sister, Lucy Johnson Russell of Longview, Texas; nieces: Andrea Jane Russell Maloney and husband John of Longview, Texas; Angelia Bingham Love of Cedar Park, Texas, Carol Russell Ray of Bryant, Judith Ann Flowers McKnight of Conway; nephew Warren Hagman of Henderson, Va.; sisters-in-law: Glennie Hagman of Henderson, Nev. and Gail Bingham of Hutto, Texas and a host of friends. Services will be held at 1 p.m., on Monday, Nov.1, at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier with Bro. Bill Grothe and Bro. Joe Kennedy officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery south of Quitman, off Hwy. 25 North, in Quitman. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sun, Oct. 31, at the funeral home.
