HARVEY GODWIN, 69, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, in Little Rock, Ark., after a sudden heart attack. He was born May 4, 1941 in Avant, Ark. A long-time resident of Bryan, Texas, he had recently moved back with his wife Rhea to the Hillcrest neighborhood in Little Rock. Even though for many years he and his family lived in Hot Springs, Ark., Harvey was a born-again Texan. He spent his entire adult life in the grocery business, beginning as a bag boy and eventually owning several successful supermarkets and other businesses before retiring in March 2010. Harvey leaves behind a treasure trove of friends, loved ones and happy memories. He loved family above all else and was happiest when family and friends were gathered at his and Rhea's home. An inveterate practical joker, Harvey was known for staging elaborate, creative jokes on his hunting buddies, friends, family and other assorted victims. Stories about his practical jokes over the years play an important role in family lore. We know that Harvey will continue to hear us share and enjoy these special stories as the years go by. Some of his favorite times were spent with his great hunting buddies at their beloved hunting "lodge." Harvey is survived by his wife, Rhea, the love of his life, with whom he recently celebrated their 50-year wedding anniversary. He also is survived by daughter Debra Keddie and her husband Michael of Little Rock; daughter Lisa Godwin and her husband Rick of Oregon. "Poppa" had one beloved grandchild, Olivia, age 10, who meant the world to him. He also is survived by his brother, Dwight Godwin; sisters, Verna Williams, Wilma Hatmaker and Juanita Ballew; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his two beloved dogs, Opie and Doogie. His special dog Max preceded him in death two years ago. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. (visitation begins at 1 p.m.) on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010 at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 West Markham, Little Rock, Ark. 72205.
