TOM A. EDWARDS, 96, of North Little Rock was born July 4th, 1914 in Evening Shade, Arkansas and passed away on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 in North Little Rock. He is preceded in death by his son Thomas Latham Edwards and four sisters and five brothers. Mr. Edwards was currently a member of the Somers Avenue Church of Christ and a former member of Sylvan Hills Church of Christ. He was employed by Arkansas Power and Light Company from 1950 – 1979 and served as an officer for the RSES and was named International Man of The Year by that organization in 1978. He played an important role in the establishment of the Arkansas Vocational/Technical School System. Some of his favorite pastimes included fishing and gardening, and he happily shared the vegetables he grew with friends and neighbors. Mr. Edwards served his country in the US Navy during WWII and was a member of the CCC during the 1930s. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Beatrice Latham Edwards of North Little Rock and a son, David Edwards and his wife Carolyn of Dallas, Texas, as well as grandchildren Jeremy Edwards, currently serving in the U. S. Foreign Service in the Dominican Republic, Dylan Edwards of Austin, Texas, and Leslie Edwards Fisher of Breckenridge, Colo., and his great-grandchildren, Jasper, Sam and Sage Thomas. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Somers Avenue Church of Christ in North Little Rock. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Memorial Park.
