Reuben Smith

Reuben Smith, 87, of Russellville, Ark., formerly of Jacksonville, Ark., died Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville, Ark. The son of James and Verda Smith, he was born December 23, 1922 in Monroe, Tenn. He was a United States Aircore Veteran of World War II. He was shot down twice in World War II. The second time he was shot down he was wounded and captured and served as a prisoner of war in Germany. He returned home after his release at the end of the war and reenlisted in the new U.S. Air Force where he honorably served for 30 years and retired as Chief Master Sergeant. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. He enjoyed NASCAR and Reds Baseball. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 25 years, Ona Cross Smith; his second wife of 25 years, Wilma Latta Glover Smith; his parents; two infant sons, Robert Alfred Smith and Reuben Wallace Smith Jr. He is survived by his four daughters, Johnnie Martin & husband Gene of Russellville, Ark., Catherine Glass & husband Michael of Lawrence, Kan., Loretta Long & husband Michael of Winfield, Ala., Sandra Rowles & husband Michael of Fontana, Calif.; a son, Gary Smith & wife Catherine of Bartlesville, Okla.; a stepson, W.C. "Dub" Glover of North Little Rock, Ark.; a stepdaughter, Ann Teeter & husband Joseph of Little Rock, Ark.; 13 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two step-great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Paul Smith & wife Peggy of Milner, Ga., Herbert Smith & wife Betty of Yorktown, Ind., James Smith Jr. & wife Marjorie of Muncie, Ind.; two sisters, Beulah Taylor & husband Donald of Austell, Ga., Eula Neal of Byrdstown, Tenn. and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral will be at 10 a.m., Monday, September 13, 2010 at Humphrey Chapel in Russellville, Ark. by Humphrey Funeral Service. Roger Pearce will officiate. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, September 12, 2010, at Humphrey Funeral Service.
