Shirley Thompson

Shirley Thompson, 75, of Austin, died Friday, September 9, 2010. She was born to Orvis Amon and Noma Pauline Brock in Trumann, Arkansas on July 17, 1935. Shirley graduated from Trumann High School, and continued her education at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics and Master's Degree in Education. She was a Home Economics teacher and she taught three generations in her twenty-seven years at Cabot High School. Shirley was devoted to her God, her church, and her family. Shirley is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Edgar R. Thompson; three daughters, Paula Marie Hammersly of Austin and her children: Josephine, John, and Owyn Ross; Ltc. Ret. U.S. Army Patricia Ann and her husband, Dr. Roland B. Gustafon of Cheyenne Wyoming and their children: Beth, Ian, and Kyle; Barbie and her husband, Scott Merrick of Austin and their children: Jesse, Jordan, Tim, and Carmen; two sisters, Lou Etta Wicker of Jonesboro and Teresa Pendergist of Austin; and many nieces and nephews who she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Druary Floyd Brock; and two brothers-in-law, Paul Pendergist and Jimmy Wicker. Friends are invited to a Celebration Tea at 1 p.m., Sunday at their home located at 580 Thompson Road in Austin. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Cabot with burial to follow in 16th Section Cemetery.
