Marie Holt Young, 90, formerly of Little Rock, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010 at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark. She was born to the late Edward Gus and Alice Louis (Brietz) Holt on March 13, 1920 and raised in the Hamilton Community near Carlisle, Ark. Marie was a faithful member of the Temple Baptist Church in Little Rock. Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jewel Granville Young, five brothers and their spouses, Edward and Allene Holt, Clyde and Flossie Holt, Alvin and Norma Holt, Reverend Jack and Jane Holt, and Roy Holt. She is survived by her sister, Doris Holt Smith and her husband, Horace Smith, and her sister-in-law, Frances Holt, all of Jonesboro. She leaves to cherish her memory a host of extended family and friends, who will miss her dearly. More than anything, Marie enjoyed her large extended family. Her nieces and nephews never tired of hearing her tell stories of her younger days. Marie enjoyed fishing, watching Razorback football, Cardinal baseball, and cooking. Her peanut brittle and secret recipe barbeque sauce were family favorites. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13, at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth Funeral Home, 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock, Ark. 72204. Graveside services will be held on Monday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. at Little Rock National Cemetery located on 2523 Confederate Boulevard with Little Rock Temple Baptist Church Interim Pastor Joel Slayton officiating. Pallbearers are Kenneth Holt, Eddie Holt, Steve Smith, Todd Smith, Judd Smith, and Gabe Brown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to your favorite charity.
