BILL GAINES of Little Rock passed away on Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at the age of 81. He was born February 13, 1929, to William Christopher Gaines and Cordia DuBose Gaines of Searcy, who preceded him in death. Bill grew up in Searcy and graduated from Searcy High School in 1947. Bill entered the United States Army and served honorably in the Korean War. After returning to Arkansas, he joined Fones Brothers Hardware and Furniture Company where he met his future wife Alma Lindsey Gaines. They were married on Aug. 18, 1956, and four years later were blessed with the birth of their only daughter, Kay. Bill continued working in the furniture industry as a manufacturer's representative for many years, eventually leaving that field to become business manager for his wife, who was a National Sales Director and the 33rd sales consultant in the history of Mary Kay Cosmetics. He was also a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 60. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alma, daughter Kay Gaines Stebbins and her husband Robert, all of Little Rock. Bill will always be "Grandy" to his beloved granddaughters Laura Lindsey Stebbins and Anna Caroline Stebbins, also of Little Rock. He is also survived by his sister Wanda Sue Teague and her husband, Gene, of McCrory, as well as many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 6–8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, at Griffin Leggett Healy and Roth Funeral Home, 5800 West 12th Street in Little Rock. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28th, at Forest Hills Cemetery with the Reverend Doctor Russell Snapp of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral officiating. The family requests that memorials be made to Arkansas Hospice or a favorite charity.
