Olive Wise Paulus

Olive Wise Paulus, age 87, of Warren, Arkansas, died Monday, August 8 at Hospice Home Care, Little Rock, Arkansas. She had lived in Little Rock for two years. Mrs. Paulus was born August 11, 1923, in Warren, a daughter of the late Ernest Lavelle Wise and Minnie Lee Stephens Wise. She was a graduate of the Warren Public School System and Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University. She was a member, Elder, and Deacon of First Presbyterian Church and taught 2nd grade in the Warren Public Schools. She married E.F."Bebe" Paulus, Jr. on September 3, 1946, at the First Presbyterian Church of Warren, and he preceded her in death on May 29, 2004. If you ever dined at Olive Paulus' table you had a unique experience, no matter how many times you might have dined with her. She cared singularly about how she prepared the meal, your conversation, and the community created at the table. Her care for the experience at her table was reflected in her care for all of those in her life: her family - particularly her grandsons; her students; her church; and her many friends. Her love of a game - whether bridge, golf, or a board game -- would bring a sense of fun to the activity, but you knew you also had a serious competitor on your hands. She will be missed by all those who were privileged to enjoy her food, her fun, and her caring. She is survived by two sons: Tom Paulus, MD and spouse Jan, and Mike Paulus and spouse Jo, all of Little Rock, Ark; one daughter: Lee Leming and spouse Jim, of Swarthmore, Pa.; four grandchildren: George Leming and spouse Tara, of Philadelphia, Pa.; Chad Leming and spouse Toni, of New Orleans, La.; Matthew Paulus, of New York, N.Y.; and Stephen Paulus MD, of Kansas City, Mo. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Martha Wise and Jeannette Moseley. Memorial services 1:30 p.m., Friday, August 12, at First Presbyterian Church of Warren. Burial at 1 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery by Frazer's Funeral Home of Warren. Family will receive friends in the fellowship Hall following the service. Memorials preferred to First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 212 East Church Street, Warren, Ark. 71671, or Bradley County Medical Center Foundation, 404 South Bradley Street, Warren, Ark. 71671.
