Ok Hui Johnson of Jacksonville was born September 4th, 1933 in South Korea and passed away on August 6th, 2011 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She is preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. So of South Korea, her son, John E. Johnson Jr. and her ex-husband, John E. Johnson Sr. In 1969, she came to the United States with a second chance with her new family. As a military wife, she had two more sons, John E. Johnson Jr. and Dion Johnson and they traveled all over the far eastern countries. Her passion for cooking was evident with her wide range of cuisines, dishes, and the size of her two boys. Concluding her life of travel, Jacksonville, Arkansas became home in 1977. Having worked various jobs, Western Sizzlin became a permanent place of employment in the mid 1980's where she gained local fame from her cooking talents for the public. Her specialties were turnip greens, potato salad, baked beans, fried chicken, catfish, gizzards.... you name it. She also loved to prepare Kim Chi, Bulgogi, and many other Korean dishes for her family and friends In 1994, she was able to start a business with her sons and her cooking for the public continued over the next 10 years. Seven days a week, she loyally had fish and chicken ready at 4:30 a.m. for her customers. She gained additional popularity in the community and with friends for the best chicken and gizzards in town. Customers traveled great distances to regularly dine in her establishment. She is survived by her son, Dion Johnson and his wife Tanya of Jacksonville, her daughter, Joyce Johnson of Jacksonville. Her four brothers and one sister of South Korea are unknown. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Amaya and Anna. Her special son, Royce Pinkard and many extended "Johnson's" on the east coast. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 13th, 2011 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Rd. in North Little Rock with visitation on Friday, August 12th, 2011 from 5:30-7 p.m. Please visit www.griffinleggettresthills.com to view the online tribute
