Dorothy Pitts Young

Dorothy Pitts Young of Sheridan, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 15, 2011 at her home. She was born February 2, 1925 in Yell County to the late Homer C. And Annis Farrer Pitts and was raised in Sherrill and Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She was a member of Little Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Young, former Police Chief of Pine Bluff, whom she was married to for 50 years. She was also preceded in death by a son, David Young of Canton, Texas and a granddaughter, Jackie Hurt of Sheridan. She is survived by three daughters, LaDonne Brewster and husband Johnie of Rison, Diane Miller and husband Frank and Becky Lunsford and husband Charles all of Sheridan; also a sister, Joanne Wilson and husband Bill of Carthage, Missouri and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Young of Canton, Texas. She had nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan. Burial will follow at Ain Cemetery at Grapevine. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Robert Lunsford, David Lunsford, John Lunsford, Gregg Armstrong, Charles Miller and Paul Jacobs, her grandsons. The family would like to express their special thanks to Shirley Denis, caregiver and loving hospice nurse, Mary Beth Clark for being angels to Mrs. Dorothy.
