JAMES E. "REDLINE" CARLON, 86, of North Little Rock, Ark., passed away on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, in a North Little Rock hospital with complications from diabetes and congestive heart failure. Jim was born Sept. 27, 1924, in Morrilton, Ark., to Walter E. Carlon and Mildred Blanche Ray Carlon. He was fourth of twelve children growing up in Hattieville, Ark. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who was one of four siblings who served in WWII. Upon being honorably discharged from the military Jim attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, Ark. and continued his love of baseball by playing on local teams as he had done growing up. He retired from Southwestern Bell in 1978 after 31 years of service. In retirement he enjoyed perfecting his game of golf dividing his time between Hot Springs Village and Burns Park. He was a thirty second degree mason and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Over his life he had many enduring friendships that he cherished. Overcoming adversity, Jim was at peace with exemplary love, compassion and strength for us all. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 50 years, Sue Rittersporn Carlon, brothers Walter Raymond Carlon, Robert "Rod" Carlon, Gilbert "Gib" Carlon, sisters Evelyn Carlon Edwards, Francis Carlon, and Mildred Sue Carlon and one niece Jamie Carlon. He is survived by sisters Erma Lee Burnett of Denver, Colo., Melba Detrick (Don) of Falling Waters, W. Va., and Jean Himes of Houston, Texas, brothers John "Boone" Carlon of Fort Smith, Ark., and Ancel "Square" Carlon (Joan) of Morrilton, Ark., eighteen nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road in North Little Rock at 1 p.m. with burial to follow in Oak lawn Cemetery in Batesville, Ark.
