LIGIA BEMIS, age 81, of Little Rock, Ark., passed away on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011. She was born to her parents Amadeo Lugo and Rafaela Nazario on Sept. 22, 1928, in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico. Ligia could boast that her "family tree" was quite large and was the second youngest of 11 children, nine girls and two boys. She was a devout Catholic who gave her time and wisdom to Our Lady of Good Council and was the only one of her sisters to drive a car. In addition, she enjoyed gardening; cooking and had a penchant for traveling anywhere her heart could take her. Ligia's husband of nearly 50 years, (Robert) had preceded her in death by just over six months ago and so there was only one more place her heart needed to be. Missing her deeply are two remaining sister's, Eunice Rios and Ethel Facundo; her four children, Richard Garcia (Christy), Zilka Denise Bemis, Bobby Bemis, Monte Bemis (Cindy) and Larry Bemis (Tiffany). She will also say goodbye to 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and a host of friends both far and near. It is now time to take note of the Latin inscription on the Lugo coat-of-arms, (from her ancestral home of Spain), that read's; Hoc, Hic, Mysterium, Fidei, Fir miter, Profitemur. Translated reads, Here is the mystery of Faith that we strongly profess! Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Funeral Home, 5800 W. 12th St., Little Rock, Ark., 501-661-9111 with Father Richard Zawadzki officiating. Burial will follow at the Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery at following date. A visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011, at the funeral home.
