Phillip Ancel Yates

Phillip "Phil" Ancel Yates, age 75 of Bagdad, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011. He was born on Jan. 19, 1936, in River Junction, Fla., and has resided in Bagdad the past 25 years. He was involved in numerous business ventures ranging from sky rides, Jim Walters Homes, lumber sales and land speculations. He was a licensed pilot and had sailed all around the world. He was preceded in death by his brother, Don Yates. Phil is survived by his life partner, Betty Couch of Bagdad; three daughters, Gwynn (Derrick) VanValkenburg of Little Rock, Ark., Michelle Yates of Charleston, Ark., and Kamela (Bill) Heuman of Galveston, Texas; four grandchildren, Madalyn, Stephanie, Thomas and Mackenzie; a sister, Elizabeth Clarke of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; a brother, Ronald Yates of Hot Springs, Ark., and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Memorial services will be held Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel with Rev. Gary Jones, officiating.
