Carole Ruth Short Hancock, age 69, of Searcy, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 26, 2011. She was born April 6, 1942 in Little Rock, Arkansas and a lifelong Baptist. Carole was a multi-talented artist, craftswoman, designer, teacher and decorator. She owned two design studios, The Owls Nest in Hot Springs and The Creative Design Studio in Searcy where she taught painting classes and sold finished works, and she continued teaching from her home studio for many years following. She met many friends during her years of teaching and traveling the state participating in craft fairs. She also published several successful painting and sewing instructional books through Leisure Arts Publishing. Carole was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She spent her life caring for her family. She loved Jim deeply and was a wonderful mother to her children. She enjoyed celebrating every occasion with great food and a lot of laughter. She enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking and crafts of every kind. She always greeted you with a smile on her face even as her health deteriorated. She will be missed tremendously by all that knew her. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Jim Hancock of Searcy; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Tamara Greenwood of Benton; daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Tracy Rambo of Searcy; daughter, Tracy Hancock of Searcy; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Bill Joyner of Maumelle; two sisters, Judy Denio of Atlanta, Georgia, and Sandra Gantt of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Wesley Short of Rogers, and Harry Short of Pea Ridge; grandchildren, Daniel and David Greenwood, Tisha and Tiffany Rambo, and John (and wife Larah), Dylan, Cami and Carly Joyner; two great-grandchildren, Hayden Rambo and Jayden Greenwood; and many other family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Short and Jewell Hardin; her brother, Ronald Short. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home of Searcy.
