Ireane Stratton

Ireane Brittell Stratton, 94, went home to be with her Lord on Aug. 26, 2011, just one year after the death of her beloved husband Leland. She was born in Hay Springs, Neb., and lived in South Dakota until age 10 when she moved with her sister and brother-in-law to Siloam Springs, Ark. She graduated from John Brown University with a degree in home economics in 1937. After graduation, she taught in the Brown schools in Detroit, Mich., and Glendora, Calif. In early 1940s, she became a home demonstration agent in Stuttgart where she met and married Leland. While Leland was serving in WWII, she worked in the Library at John Brown University. After Leland was discharged, they moved back to Stuttgart where they remained the rest of their lives. Her joys were her husband and family. Her favorite activities were cooking, working in the church library and traveling. Ireane was preceded in death by her beloved husband Leland, her mother and father, Julia and Roy Brittell, two sisters, Mildred and Garland. She is survived by her three children, Marilyn Elliott and husband Richard of San Antonio, Texas, Wendell Stratton and wife Paula of Stuttgart and Lois Terry of Benton, Ark. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Robert Elliott and wife Rebecca, of San Antonio, Texas, Roland Elliott of Honolulu, Hawaii, Cathy Hildebrand and husband Richie of Stuttgart, Mark Stratton and wife Jena of Stuttgart, Stephanie Noble and husband Andy of DeWitt, Lauren Byers and husband Zach of Stuttgart and Rebecca and Marshall Terry of Benton. In addition, Ireane is survived by great-grandchildren, Chris Elliott and wife Jennifer of San Antonio, Cassandra Elliott of San Antonio, Jacob and Anna Cate Hildebrand, Abby and Emily Stratton, Keaton Byers of Stuttgart, Jackson Noble of DeWitt and great-great grandchildren Ryan, Riley and Sarah Elliott of San Antonio, as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday afternoon at Turpin Funeral Home from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The family private burial will be held Tuesday morning. A memorial service will be conducted at First Baptist Church, Stuttgart, at 2 p.m. Tuesday for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leland and Ireane Stratton Endowed Scholarship at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Stuttgart First Baptist Church Library, Stuttgart Agricultural Museum, or Gideon's, International.
