William Lea Smiley

William Lea Smiley, Sr. 83, of North Little Rock passed away Monday, August 29, 2011. He was born in Gloster, Mississippi to the late James Malcom and Wilna Jackson Smiley. Lea was a member of Park Hill Baptist Church. He retired from University of Arkansas Agricultural Extension Service. He loved hunting, fishing, and gardening. He had over forty varieties of irises in his yard. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science Degree from Mississippi State and a Masters Degree in Forestry from Louisiana State University. He is survived by his wife of sixty two years, Etta Gillis Smiley; one daughter, Jo Karen Hudson of Conway; two sons, William Lea Smiley Jr. and wife, Janna and Robert Gillis Smiley, all of Sherwood; five grandchildren, Laura Campbell, Shanna Smiley, Russell Smiley, Kara Mincey and Cynthia Smiley; five great-grandchildren; one sister Martha Nell May of Madison, Mississippi; and one brother, James Malcom Smiley of Merdian, Mississippi. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Roller-Owens Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Bill Ramsey officiating. A private burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, August 31, at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Arkansas 4-H Foundation Inc., 2301 S.
