Winfred Bryant Hammons, 90, of North Little Rock passed away Sunday, August 28, 2011. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in North Little Rock and an ordained deacon for 61 years. He helped to construct and expand Highway Baptist Church in North Little Rock and Berea Baptist Church in Jacksonville. He served as Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher for many years and as a lay leader in Pulaski and North Pulaski Baptist Association. Winfred was a graduate of Jacksonville High School, served in the Army Air Force and was a veteran of World War II, a master electrician and loved gardening, working in the yard and traveling with his family. He especially loved construction and built both houses he and Pearl lived in and also helped in building the children and grandchildren's houses. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pearl (Martin) Hammons, of North Little Rock; two daughters, Sandra Tubbs and husband, Bob, of Sherwood and Connie Stout and husband, Mike, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandsons, Phillip Tubbs and wife, Pam, of Jacksonville and Mark Tubbs and wife, Brenda, of Cabot; great-grandchildren, Aaron Tubbs, of Jacksonville and Allison Tubbs, of Cabot; brother, Waymon Hammons, of Cabot; many nieces and nephews and their families, of Cabot; and many friends and "adopted" family who served at Little Rock Air Base. Memorials may be made to Baptist Hospice, 11900 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, Arkansas 72210. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday at Central Baptist Church. Burial will be in Rest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170.
