Betty Doherty

Betty Joyce Doherty, age 83, of Conway, formerly of Pine Bluff, died Sunday November 27, 2011. She was born October 28, 1928 at Lewisville, AR, a daughter of the late Loys Emmitt Joyce and Lola Boyce Joyce. A 1946 graduate of Pine Bluff High School, Betty worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company while she was a young woman. She spent the rest of her extraordinary career at Sears, and enjoyed working there very much. She loved her customers, and always gave them the best service, and they loved her for it. She has enjoyed her retirement to the fullest. She travelled with her friends and family, and never got too tired to go again. Betty often said that she didn't know how she found time to work. Betty loved her church, Woodland Heights Baptist Church, and was a member of Grace Sunday School Class, Women on Missions, and Senior Adults. Some of her favorite things to do were tracing her family tree, sewing, and reading. She had served as an officer in the Jefferson County Genealogical Society. She was also a member of the David O. Dodd chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and of the John McAlmont Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Christian Radar, and a sister, Frances Carolyn Simpson. Betty's survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Elaine Clark of Pine Bluff and Brenda Joyce Roesler of Hernando, Fla.; a grandson, Jeffrey Allan Howey and wife Cindy of North Little Rock; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends; and her most special friend, Mr. Joseph Fratesi of Pine Bluff. Graveside services will be Saturday, 1 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery in Pine Bluff with Reverend George Mitchell officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Arrangements are by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. Online condolences: FullerFunerals.com.
