Max C. Thompson

Max C. Thompson, 78, of Hot Springs Village, passed away Monday, Nov. 28, 2011. He was born March 28, 1933, in Mercer, Mo., to the late Jeff and Dorothy Jones Thompson. Max served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1964, he received his Masters Degree from the University of Iowa. Max was a business education teacher and school administrator, retiring in 1992 with 37 years in Iowa education, with his school receiving the IOWA Fine Award and the National Blue Ribbon School Award presented by President Ronald Reagan. After moving to the village, Max began selling real estate to stay active. In his professional and personal life, he took great pride in honesty, fairness, and a job done to perfection. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Arkansas Realtors Association, HSV Board of Realtors, and Woodlands Presbyterian Church. Max was a former member of HSV Thursday Kiwanis and mentored at Teen Challenge. He and Arlene enjoyed traveling, boating, and relaxing at their cottage on the Mississippi River. Max is survived by his wife of 53 years, Arlene Barta Thompson, of Hot Springs Village; son, Kenton (Shannon) Thompson, of Fairfax, Iowa; daughter, Gwen (Doug) Stimple, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Patty Edmondson, of Ankeny, Iowa; and grandchildren, Sam and Jack Stimple, and Seamus, Tadhg, and Flannery Thompson. Memorial service will be 10 a.m., Dec. 29, 2011, at Woodlands Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are under the care of Caruth Village Funeral Home. Guests may register at www.caruth-hale.com.
