Harold Wayne Corkran

Harold Wayne Corkran, 80, of Marianna, Ark. passed away Friday, Dec. 2, 2011 at home, with his family there to comfort him. Wayne was born Aug. 9, 1931 to the late Ronald Richard Corkran and Ruby Aileen Casteel in Marianna, Ark. He lived a very full and productive life. He graduated high school in Marianna, Ark. He graduated from Northeast Louisiana College with a bachelor's and master's degree in education. He later worked as a teacher, coach, principal and Superintendent in the School systems of Lee County, Marvell School, Barton School, Newellton, La., Fordyce, Ark. and Cross County, Ark. for 30 years. He was a very distinguished member of the community serving on various boards and community organizations, including the Lee County School District Board, Lee County Housing Authority, Methodist Men's Group and The American Legion. He is survived by his son, Michael Corkran (Cindy) of Shreveport, La.; daughter, Lisa DeJarnatte (Ralph) of Huntsville, Ala.; five grandchildren, Kelly Downey (Devin), Jeff Corkran (Jenny), Merdith Guess (Timothy), Michelle Holman (Adam), Curtis DeJarnatte (Meaghan); six great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Howell Lane Cheatam III (Linda) and two sister-in-laws, Iris Jean Williamson and Eugenia Corkran. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 58 years, Mamfie Cheatham Corkran and brother Ronald Edward Corkran. Services are Monday, Dec. 5, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Marianna Reverend Ike Mohr has charge of services.. Visitation is Dec. 4, 2011 at Roller-Citizens Funeral Chapel from 5-7 p.m. Burial will be in Marianna Memorial Park in Marianna. Roller-Citizens Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
