Rocele Hubbard Shero

Rocele Hubbard Shero, longtime Sheridan resident, died Dec. 1 in a West Plains, Mo., hospital at the age of 97. She had made her home in Gatewood, Mo. the past few years with her daughter and son-in-law, Imogene and Allan Ninness. Mrs. Shero was born on Aug. 16, 1914 in Kansas City, Mo., to Nathan and Ora Craig Hubbard, who moved to Sheridan in 1920. She and 27 classmates graduated from Sheridan High School in 1932. She married Carter Shero, a resident of St. Louis, where they lived before moving to Litchfield, Ill., where they owned a plumbing business until they retired and moved to Sheridan. He died in 1993. Rocele was a member, deaconess, former treasurer and Sunday School teacher at First Christian Church in Sheridan, a 59-year-member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a past Mother Advisor of Rainbow Girls. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; a son, Colonel (ret.) Henry Shero; two brothers, Jimmie Hubbard and Lt. Col. (ret.) William Hubbard, and a sister, Marjorie Van Hole. In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by a daughter-in-law, Beverly Shero of Jonesboro; four grandchildren, Master Sgt. Nathan Shero of Albuquerque, N.M., Jennifer Hutchinson of Jonesboro, Craig Ninness of Eldorado, Ill. and Brian Ninness of North Richland Hills, Texas; nine great-grandchildren; two nieces, Ginny Randall and Iris Wylie of Springfield, Mo. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at Memorial Gardens Chapel. Funeral service with Eastern Star rites will follow immediately at 3 p. m., eulogy by Bill Lancaster and music by Rocele's granddaughter, violinist Jennifer Hutchinson. Pallbearers will be Allan Ninness, Craig Ninness, Brian Ninness, Nathan Shero, Chris Hutchinson and Jacob Ninness. Burial will be in Lost Creek Cemetery.
