Alvin Ross "A.R." Shumate

Alvin Ross "A.R." Shumate, 85, of Troy, Missouri passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2011. He was born June 26,1926 in Greenbrier, Arkansas to the late Alvin Ross Shumate and Ethel Verna Potts Shumate. He was a member of the Church of Christ, an Army Veteran serving in Germany and Korea, and a retired farmer. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and raising bees. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jonell Williams Shumate, his son, Tommy Shumate and wife Theresa of Winfield, Missouri, two granddaughters, Katie (Scott) Fagin and Nancy (Shaun) Fitzgerald, five great-great-grandchildren, sister, Shirley Ragsdell and many other relatives, in-laws, and friends. He was preceded in death by five siblings all from Arkansas, Geraldine (Harold) Green, Clara (Noel) Cole, Eugene "Buddy" (Angie) Shumate, Arcell (Neil) Walters, Norman (Lillian) Shumate. Services are 1 p.m., Monday, Decembers, 2011 in the chapel of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway with burial in McNew Cemetery near Greenbrier. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Charity of donor's choice.
