Virgie Marie Garvin, age 83, of Little Rock passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, December 8, 2011. She was born April 11, 1928 in Little Rock, Arkansas to her late parent's Virgil and Bertha Lucille Fisher Whitting. Marie was a member of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Guild and the Wildwood Park for the Performing Arts both in Little Rock, The Little Rock Garden Club and the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ. In addition, she enjoyed reading, gardening and was an avid traveler having traveled to more than 100 countries. Survivors include her four children, George Wylie Thompson (Jirapar) of Cabot, Arkansas, Linda Marie Wells (Joseph) of Richardson, Texas, Sharon Rose Miller (Paul) of Houma, La. and Karen Kay Metcalf (Rusty) of Rowlett, Texas; six grandchildren, George Allen Thompson, Ashley Carol Moore, James Henry Thompson, Amanda Rose Peters and Natalie Fay Marie Falgout, and Sarah Thompson Wells; four great-grandchildren and her best companion, her dog, "The Duke." She is preceded in death by husband Osborne "Pete" W. Garvin and one brother, Louis Whitting. A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Funeral Home, 5800 W. 12th St., Little Rock, Ark. (501) 661-9111.
