Martha Bell Shanks

Martha Bell Shanks, 95, of Little Rock passed away on December 11, 2011 in Little Rock, Ark. She was born on June 17, 1916 in Russellville, Ark. to E. Roy and Nora Berrymen Shanks. Ms. Shanks was a retired employee of the United States Geological Survey where she worked for 25 years. After retiring, she volunteered her time in churches and libraries and was a long-time member of Highland Valley United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Jack Shanks. She leaves behind extended family members and many friends who will miss her wonderful sense of humor. Her love for chocolate, candy and birds made for great conversations. Funeral will be at 2 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2011 at Humphrey Chapel in Russellville, Ark. Rev. Herschel McClurkin will officiate. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Russellville, Ark., by Humphrey Funeral Service. Memorials may be made to the Wesley Foundation, Arkansas Tech University, Russellville, Ark. or the United Methodist Foundation of Arkansas.
