Carolyn Allen

Carolyn Jacobs Allen, age 79, of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2011 in Little Rock under the care of Arkansas Hospice. Born on March 20, 1932 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Jackson Jacobs and Louise Neblett Jacobs. Carolyn was a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, class of 1954, where she was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity. She was married to the late John Edward Allen, III, for 53 years. Together they loved to travel the world, but most of all cherished retirement at Greers Ferry Lake. Carolyn was a retired teacher, social worker and school counselor. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved to cook, entertain and had a gift of making everyone around her feel loved. She is missed by her loving family, including two daughters: Cindy A. Edwards (Bill), Nancy A. McGraw (Johnny), one son, John E. Allen IV (Cathy), eight grandchildren: Ashley Edwards, Jessie Edwards, John Allen McGraw, Ann McGraw, John E. Allen V (Lindsey), Megan A. Irwin (Clark), Elise Allen, Laura Allen and one sister, Ann Sanders (Ross) and many wonderful friends. A gathering of family and friends will be held to celebrate Carolyn's life on Wednesday, December 21 from 5-8 p.m. at the home of Cindy and Bill Edwards, 1723 Beechwood, Little Rock, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Holiday Hills United Methodist Church, 8824 Edgemont Road, Greers Ferry, Arkansas with Reverend Dan Brand officiating. Interment will follow at the Woodland Memorial Park.
