JANICE RAE SMITH BARNETT passed away Dec. 31, 2010, at peace and surrounded by her family. She was born Feb. 9, 1941 in Morrilton to Leslie L. Smith Jr. and Dorothy Glasco Smith. She grew up in Little Rock and North Little Rock and graduated from North Little Rock High School. She attended the University of Oregon, where she studied business. She celebrated 46 years of marriage to Jim Barnett in March 2010. She had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Friends in Faith Sunday school class for more than 40 years. She was a bookkeeper at Feinstein's clothing store for many years before retiring in 2002 to become a full-time grandmother. Jan loved her friends, her church, her husband and her children, but she gave the best part of herself to her seven grandchildren, who loved her deeply and brought her so much joy. She was known for her warmth and for her chocolate pie, and she left her mark on everyone who knew her. She faced her illness with strength, determination and a smile that rarely wavered. She is survived by her husband; son Jay and his wife Kari, of Bentonville; daughter Jennifer Barnett Reed and her husband, Matt of North Little Rock; daughter Jill Barnett Sorrows of Little Rock; grandchildren Jaden Atkins, Grace and Alexander Barnett, Jack and Georgia Reed, and Ashlyn and Drew Sorrows; brothers Leslie L. Smith III of Perryville and the Reverend Forrest Smith of Tarboro, N.C.; sister Tina Osborne of Arlington, Texas; aunts Bunnye Jones of New Jersey and Wilma White of Little Rock; uncle and aunt Rex and Bonnie Glasco of Arizona; nieces; nephews; cousins and many friends. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2011 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (501)224-8300. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church with burial in the Osborne Cemetery in St. Joe. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1101 N. Mississippi, Little Rock, Ark. 72207. Online guestbook: www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/chenal.
