John Edward Eckert

John Edward Eckert, age 89, of Gurdon, Ark. passed away Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011. He was born Feb. 26, 1921 to Ed and Nancy (Hughes) Eckert. He married Lanora (Toler) Eckert on April 15, 1940; he retired as a conductor for the railroad after 34 years of service. He was a member of UTU for 70 years, a member of First Assembly of God Church in Gurdon and a veteran, where he received a Soldiers Medal of Honor for Bravery. He was preceded in death by his wife and one grandchild in 2005. His survivors are one son, Ronnie Eckert and his wife, Charlene of Gurdon, Ark..; one daughter, Renie Eckert Taylor and her husband, Lano of Mountain View, AR.; five grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and special friend Myrtle Lee Roberson. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. preceding the beginning of the service at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2011in the Pharr Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Woods and Rev. Leonard Hodges officiating. Interment to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Pharr Funeral Home of Gurdon. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Children's Home, 2325 Malvern Avenue, Hot Springs, Ark.
