Miriam Stinnett Ghormley

Miriam Stinnett Ghormley, 98, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011 in Camden. She was born in Junction City, Ark., June 19, 1912 but spent most of her life in Camden at her home on Greening Street. She earned an associate degree Louisiana Tech in Ruston and later completed at 21 year career at Arkansas Department of Human Services before retiring. Mrs. Ghormley was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Camden and participated in Sunday school groups there. She also worshiped at her son's church, Marrable Hill Chapel in El Dorado. She was a faithful supporter of preservation efforts in the Greening and Clifton Historic District. Mrs. Ghormley is survived by her son, James Robert Ghormley and grandson, Andrew Michael Ghormley both of Camden; two nieces, Kathy Boddie and Cindy Hughes of Shreveport, La.; two great-nieces; and one great-nephew. She was predeceased by her husband, H.M. Ghormley; her brother, James E. Stinnett of Shreveport; and earlier by her parents, James Edward and Edith Stinnett of Camden. A graveside service arranged by Proctor Funeral Home and conducted by Rev. Sam Shepperson of El Dorado will be held at Greenwood Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2010.
