Jimmy Hix, 77, of Batesville died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at White River Medical Center. He was born April 6, 1933 in Batesville and was the son of Alline James Hix Sr. and Eva (Penn) Hix. He was a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy and served his country for 21 years. He served during the Korean War and served on several ships, including the USS Rochester. Mr. Hix spent 17 years of his service on submarines. He was the Navy Recruiter in Batesville. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. Jimmy was also an accomplished pilot.He was a very private person, loved his family and animals. Jimmy would help anyone that he could. He was an interesting and knowledgeable man and loved music and reading. Jimmy could build anything, but especially enjoyed building bird houses. He even built the home that he lived in and loved living there. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Linda (Staggs) Hix of Batesville; sons, James Hix of Batesville and Scott Atkins of Houston, Texas; daughter, Angie Cooper and husband, Bryan of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren, Austin Atkins, Tyler Atkins, Megan Atkins, Kaitlin Cooper, and Kendall Cooper; brother, Tommy Hix of Batesville; sister, Beautohn Stamos of Pennsylvania; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, James Hix, two sons, John Hix and Brad Atkins; and first wife, Mary Neiman Hix. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, January 10, 2010 at the Roller-Crouch Chapel in Batesville officiated by Leonard Westbrook and David Halbrook. There will be no visitation.
