Elizabeth "Betty" Wakefield Shedd, 81, of Ozark passed away Monday, Jan.10, 2011 in Ozark from complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was born March 3, 1929 to James Claude and Nina (Davis) Wakefield in the Wakefield family home in Ozark. She was a graduate of Ozark High School, Hendrix College, University of Arkansas, and State College of Arkansas with degrees in music and education. She also studied at Oxford University in England. Her career ranged from church and community music to elementary education and public school music; to managing the family retail business Wakefield & Company and on going public service. Her numerous community leadership roles include establishing the Glae Fraser Assembly of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls and the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; and reviving and supporting the Turner Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta, Ozark Retired Teachers Association, P.E.O., the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Arkansas Democratic Party (state and local level). As an accomplished vocalist, organist and pianist she was committed to church music and service in Ozark, Altus, Paris and Clarksville and served as a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church. Her service as an elementary school educator ranged from classroom experience to public school music at Ozark, Pleasant View and Altus/St Mary's parish. As a public school administrator she was a vice principal at Elgin B Milton Elementary in Ozark and a principal at Lavaca Elementary. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Glae Fraser. She is survived by her husband H. David and three daughters: Sally Shedd and her husband David O'Rork of Virginia Beach, Va.; Lauren Fraser Maxwell and her husband David of Conway; and Jamie Fraser Jamison and her husband Rodney of El Paso, Texas; four grandchildren: Brent Fraser Jamison and Philip O'Bryant Jamison of El Paso, Texas; and Keith Wakefield Jamison of Minneapolis, Minn.; Megan Maxwell Dickerson and her husband Drew of Louisville, Ky, and a great-grandson, Dillon Maxwell Dickerson. Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday at First Christian Church in Ozark. Family visitation will be Friday, Jan 14 from 6-8 p.m. at Shaffer Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Gary Briley, Tim Culver, Johnny Cannon, Wayne Davis, Charles Ray White and Tommy White.
