Robert Earl Fuqua

Robert Earl Fuqua, age 75, of Bentonville, Arkansas, died January 25, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, Arkansas, surrounded by his family. He was born December 29, 1935 to James Mancel and Altha Rae (Stills) Fuqua in Perry County Arkansas. Bobby graduated from Morrilton High School and Arkansas Tech University, where he attended on an athletic scholarship, lettering four years in football as a running back, defensive back and, quarterback. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Tech and went on to get his Masters of Education degree from the University of Arkansas. Bobby married his high school sweetheart, Doylene Scroggin, in Morrilton, Arkansas on July 12, 1957. Bobby was head coach at Dardanelle, Ark. before they moved to Bentonville in 1960 where he was the head football coach at BHS. He served as head football coach until he was named principal of Bentonville High School in 1967. He left the school system to open F&G Feed store and later bought and operated Emerson Monument Company in Springdale. Bobby enjoyed life and lived it to its fullest, spending time with his family, raising bird dogs, quail hunting, fishing with his buddies and working on the farm. He was preceded in death by his father James Mancel Fuqua and two brothers, James Mancel Fuqua Jr. and Billy Ray Fuqua. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Doylene Scroggin Fuqua, two daughters, Terri Lynn Fuqua Bertschy and husband Tony, Robin Kaye Fuqua McDonald and husband Kevin; four grandchildren, Dustin Wayne McDonald and wife Crystal, Amanda Louise McDonald Ramsey and husband Alan, Taylor Lynn Bertschy and Kristen Kaye Bertschy, two great-granddaughters, Abigail Pearl McDonald and Ella Kaye Ramsey, his mother, Altha Rae Fuqua and sister, Bettye Jo Burge. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 27th at 2 p.m. at The First United Methodist Church in Bentonville, Ark. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 26th from 5 until 7 p.m. at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville. Interment will be in the Bentonville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony Bertschy, Kevin McDonald, Dustin McDonald, Alan Ramsey, Rex Grimsley, and Robert Lewis. There will also be honorary pallbearers, The Bentonville High School Football Players from the classes of 1960-1967. A Special thanks for the loving care provided by the doctors and nurses at Mercy Medical Center and his Home Health Nurse, Albert Khunert. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bob Fuqua Athletic Scholarship Memorial at, 500 Tiger Blvd., Bentonville, Ark. 72712.
