Lawana Denise Hunt-Walker of Lakeview, Arkansas, died Friday January 21, 2011, at home surrounded by her husband and family. She was born March 2, 1959, in Dermott, Arkansas. She is the daughter of Dr. A.L. Hunt, Sr., and Missionary Alice M. Kinlow Hunt-Tatum. Her father preceded her in death. She was the 4th of nine siblings. On July 2, 1994, she married Pastor Ulysses Walker. She graduated from the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 1980 and taught in several school systems including, Arkansas City, Dumas and Helena. She served as a Minister of Music for several years at the West Dumas Church of God in Christ, Lakeview Church of God in Christ, and most recently until her death at the First Church of God in Christ in McGehee where she was also the First Lady. A gifted and accomplished songwriter, vocalist and musician, she performed with Grammy award winning artists and artists from across the nation. She was a teacher and music and vocal coach to many persons in the state and throughout the nation. She is survived by her husband, mother, four children, all of her siblings, and a host of family and friends. A memorial service celebrating her music and creativity will be held on Friday, January 28, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Hunt Memorial Cathedral of Faith in Dumas. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 29, at 10 a.m. at First Church of God in Christ in McGehee.
