Curtis Benson Doss, 88, of Crossett left this earth and joined the Chorus of Heavenly Angels on Jan. 29, 2011 at his home. He was born on July 4, 1922, in McGehee, Ark., to Clyde Doss and Estelle Boone Clayton. Mr. Doss was a retired employee of Georgia-Pacific Corporation's Accounting Office in Crossett. Following his retirement, he served as Minister of Music for Baptist churches in Crossett, Hazen, North Little Rock, Hot Springs Village and Bastrop, La. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Reginald Doss of Monticello; niece, Jeanie Watson of Ozark; brother-in-law, Russell Appleberry of Ozark and sister-in-law, Jimmie Tyson Hudgens of Crossett. He was a gospel music songwriter of many years having published songs for Jeffress Music Co. and Stamps Quartet Music Co. of Dallas, Texas. He was a member the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and First Baptist Church of Crossett. He and his wife Norma, formed the Wonder State Quartet in 1947 traveling the South performing at conventions and churches. Mr. Doss is survived by his wife of 66 years, Norma Tyson Doss of Crossett; a daughter, Sharon Doss Burnett and husband John W. Burnett Sr., of Little Rock; two grandsons, John W. Burnett Jr. and wife, Julie, and Mark Benson Burnett and wife Dana, all of Little Rock; four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Delaney Burnett of Maumelle and Little Rock, Trevor and Jaron Burnett of Little Rock; a sister Juanita Appleberry of Ozark; brother-in-law, Fred Hudgens Jr., of Crossett; three nieces, Sylvia Chapman of Ozark, Toni Hudgens and Kim Green of Monroe, La.; one nephew, Fred Hudgens III of Slidell, La.; one great-niece and three great-nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Crossett with Rev. James Holmes and Rev. Jamie Staley officiating. Interment will follow at Crossroads Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 from 6 p.m. Until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. (jonesservice.com)
