Molly Frances Jordan

Molly Frances Jordan, 82, of Fort Smith died Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 in a local Fort Smith hospital. She was retired after serving more than 20 years as the Corporate Secretary of the Area Agency on Aging of Western Arkansas. Molly was an avid bridge player and had many friends in that circle. She loved keeping house, caring for her plants, shrubs and flowers, and sharing her love for her husband, her children, grandchildren and extended family members. She was raised on a farm in Arkansas County near Arkansas Post and graduated from Gillett High School in 1946. After that she attended Draughn's Business College in Little Rock where she learned to take shorthand fluently and became a secretary of the old school. Among other places, she worked for the law firm of Warner and Smith in Fort Smith. Molly was a Methodist of strong faith and devotion and at various times attended church in Greenwood, Van Buren and Fort Smith. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Ellington Cemetery in Magazine, Ark., under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren, Ark. Officiating Reverend Barry Morton. She is survived by her husband, Thurman Jordan; daughter, Barbara Wilson and her husband David of Van Buren; son, Steve Barthol and wife, Debbie of Fort Smith; a granddaughter, Janice and fiancé Paul Bower of Van Buren; grandsons, Tyler and Alex Barthol of Fort Smith and Justin Wilson of Denver, Colo.; sisters, Roma Nell Waddell and Wilda Golenor of Little Rock; and a brother, Joe Smith of Pine Bluff. Pallbearers will be Austin Maddox, David Bunting, Mike Core, Paul Bower, Chris Benge, and Corey Cortez. Honorary pallbearers will be Bridge Comrades and the President Claude Legaris and members of the Noon Exchange Club.
