Bobby Eugene Bogard

Bobby Eugene Bogard, LTC Ret. Army Bobby passed away July 8, 2011 after a brave battle with ALS. He was born in Cleburne County, Ark. on Oct. 10, 1932 to Rhoden and Betty Parks Bogard. He graduated from Wilburn High School in 1950 and moved to little Rock to work and go to LRJC now UALR. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska and the Army Command and General Staff College. He accomplished many things in his life, but he was most proud of his career as an Army Aviator with the Army Corps of Engineers. In his 21 years as a fixed wing and helicopter pilot he had over 6,000 hours of flight time to his credit. Among his military awards are a Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, two Bronze Stars, 23 Air Medals and 3 Army Commendation Medals. He also received the highest award given to civilians, from the country of Guatemala where he lived and worked for four years. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Bogard Burkhart. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Genice Steely Bogard; sons, Gregory, Mark and James Bogard; granddaughters, Alicia Martinez, Lauren Bogard and Hilary Burkhart; three great-grandchildren and a brother, Rhoden Clark Bogard. Visitation will be held from 6–8 p.m. on Monday, July 10 at Olmstead Funeral Home. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11 at the Holiday Hills United Methodist Church in Greers Ferry with Pastor Dan Brand officiating. Interment will follow in Magness Cemetery in Wilburn, Ark. Pallbearers will be Brad Steely, Gary Bogard, Robert Daws, Kenneth Rice, Aubrey Yount and Jacob Miller.
