Bernard R. Norris

Bernard R. Norris, 89, of DeWitt, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011. He was born Sept. 25, 1921 in DeWitt to William Charles and Rachael Byers Norris. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War, he worked with his father as a tractor mechanic, farmed and eventually retired from Producer's Rice Mill. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, American Legion, and was a restorer of antique tractors. Survivors include two stepdaughters, Cynthia Fly (Jerry) and Becky Black (Tommy) all of DeWitt; daughter-in-law, Judy Boyd of Almyra; grandchildren, John Scott Boyd (Traci) of DeWitt, Shelly Boyd of Fayetteville, David Craig Fly (Amy) of Maumelle, Teresa Torix (Shane) of Mena, Kristi Whitmore (Heath) of St. Charles, Lisa Black of North Little Rock; great-grandchildren, Max and Sam Boyd of DeWitt, Katie Beth, Abby, Anna and Joseph Fly of Maumelle, Kaitlyn and Daryan Torix of Mena, Griffin and Wiley of Whitmore of St. Charles; along with a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Sue Morris; parents; stepson, Scottie Boyd; sisters, Youlonda Miller and Bettye Jean Norris. Graveside services will be 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 2nd at DeWitt Cemetery by Essex Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to donors choice.
