Elsie Bellingrath Stebbins

Elsie Bellingrath Stebbins, 97, of Little Rock, died March 1, 2011. She was born in Little Rock on April 4th, 1913. Elsie was the youngest daughter of Mr. T.L. Bellingrath and Maude Smith. Educated in Little Rock schools, she graduated in 1934 at the National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C. On October 17th, 1934 she was married to Howard Stebbins, III. Together, they had three sons, nine grandsons, and twelve great-grandchildren. All are surviving but the eldest son. She served the community, state, and nation in many civic, charitable, cultural institutions, and war efforts. Notable among them are the Garden Club of America, The Nature Conservancy, Winterthur, Junior League, and Kenmore. She was a sports enthusiast – golf, shooting, fishing, as well as a world traveler and antique collector. Mrs. Stebbins opened her edgehill home on many occasions to visiting dignitaries. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2011 with Reverend Canon R. Ewing Jackson and the Reverend Carey Stone presiding. The interment will be private. The family respectfully requests any memorials to be made to the charity of your choice.
