Will Green

Will Green, 76, died Monday, February 28, 2011 after a six-month battle with lung cancer. Born in Fordyce on December 26, 1934, he was the last of four children born to Gracie and Fred Green. After high school graduation, Will attended U of A Fayetteville, and Southern State College where he received a BSE Degree in Physical Education. After recovering from Rheumatic fever as a child, Will became an excellent athelete at Fordyce High School. He excelled at football, and made All State in Basketball and Track. He became a girl's basketball coach, coaching in Harmony Grove, Tuckerman and Lonoke. In his late 30's he developed Rheumatoid Arthritis, which eventually led him to the classroom only. In 1959, he married Gloria Willett. In 1973, he was awarded the Outstanding Young Educator award by the Lonoke Jaycees. In 1994, he was named Educator of the year by the Lonoke Chamber of Commerce. Will is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Don Green. Survivors include his wife Gloria Green of Lonoke, son, John Gregory (Michele) Green, daughter, Michele Llewelyn of New York, N.Y.; and granddaughter Jessica Leigh Green of North Little Rock; his sister, James Veree Mele of Houston, Texas; and brother, John F. Green of Little Rock. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. at Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke on March 2, 2011. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3 in the Lonoke United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Lancaster and Rev. Steve Brizi officiating. Entombment will follow at Lonoke Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Lonoke United Methodist Church or the Wade Knox Children's Center.
