Dene Hood

Beloved grandmother, avid gardener and "junker", Dene Hood, 87 of Little Rock passed away on March 2, 2011 at Saline Memorial Hospital Hospice House. Dene was born on February 22, 1924 in Crossett to Jewell and Luther Walker, and raised in Sterlington, Louisiana. After moving to Little Rock, she worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell, then as a licensed practical nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital. She enjoyed collecting treasures and photographs for her house and yard, and participating in local garden clubs. She is survived by her son, Dr. Ted Hood and his wife, Melinda of Benton and five grandchildren; Margaret McLellan of Fort Smith, Dr. Kin Hood of Fayetteville, Andrea Billingsley of Benton, Trulie Young of Austin, Texas and Dr. Ben Hood of Istanbul, Turkey. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Otis and one son, Benny. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, March 3, 2011 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Benton. The Rev. Lorrie Slaymaker will officiate.
