Philip "P.S." Smith Phillips

Graveside services for Mr. Philip "P.S." Smith Phillips will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Hunter's Chapel Methodist Church, located on Hwy. 9, South of Malvern, Ark. Philip Smith "P.S." Phillips was born the eldest child of Homer and Isla Phillips in Dallas County Arkansas, on December 9, 1914. He passed away March 3, 2011 at the age of 96. Visitation will be held Friday, March 4, 2011 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Springhill, La. A Masonic service honoring Mr. Phillips will be held following the visitation at 8 p.m. Mr. Phillips moved to Sarepta in 1937 and worked for the United Gas Company, International Paper Company and retired from Arizona Chemical Company in Springhill, La. He was instrumental in helping develop the Sarepta Water District. Mr. Phillips was also a member of the Springhill United Methodist Church, the Springhill Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch and the Springhill Chapter of the Eastern Star. He is survived by this daughter, Nancy Phillips Hines of Minden, granddaughter, Carol Ann Hines of Shreveport, brother, James Phillips of Newport Beach, Calif., sisters, Catherine Sparks, Bennie Jean Ungerman and Mardell Good all of Little Rock, Ark. and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 70 years, Vera Wiley Phillips, daughter, Carolyn Phillips, son-in-law, Charles J. "Chuck" Hines, brothers, Hodge Phillips, William "Bill" Phillips, Van Troy Phillips and a baby sister. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the donor's choice.
