Mary Helen Moorehouse

Mary Helen Hoegeman Moorehouse of North Little Rock, Arkansas, was born on August 29, 1938 in Batesville, Indiana, to Anthony and Philomena Wagner Hoegeman. She died on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in North Little Rock at the age of 72. Mary was a Hoosier by birth and an Arkansan by choice. A 1956 graduate of Batesville High School and a graduate of the University of New York, she was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving most of her military time in Washington, D.C. Her military travels took her to Guam, the Philippines, Alaska, Japan, Europe and Hawaii, where she lived for 16 years and raised her two children. Mary retired from a managerial position with the Federal Government completing a career of 32 years. She achieved rank the equivalent of Lieutenant Colonel. During her Federal Career she received the Commander's Award for Exceptional Civilian Service twice. She was currently employed as a Regional Administrator with PLATO Learning, an educational software company. Mary was also the 59th International President of International Training in Communications. She achieved Level 5 of the Accreditation Program certifying her as a Distinguished Communicator. She was a member of Tri-City Club, Council 7, Heartland Region. Her travels as International President took her around the world to almost every continent. A talented workshop presenter, she presented workshops on a variety of topics throughout the ITC world in English and with the assistance of translators. Outside of ITC, she presented workshops professionally for numerous women's conferences and the Department of the Army. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, writing, sewing, collecting Depression glass, playing Nintendo games or working on one of her many craft interests. She was also an avid fan of NASCAR and her favorite driver Jeff Gordon. Mary was an extraordinary woman whose greatest love was her family. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two brothers: Albert Hoegeman and Anthony Hoegeman Jr. Survivors include one brother, Philip Hoegeman of Batesville, Indiana; two sons: Philip Moorehouse of the Orion community near Sheridan and Naaman Moorehouse II of the home; two grandchildren: Brooke Moorehouse and Nathan Smith and his wife, Tabatha; and one great-grandchild: Allie Smith. She was also survived by the father of her children, Naaman Moorehouse; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services to be conducted by Father Frank DuPreez from St. Patrick's Church at North Little Rock Funeral Home Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2011 at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will be at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. Pallbearers are her sons, Philip and Naaman Moorehouse II; her grandson, Nathan Smith; her nephew, Charles Hoegeman; and nephews-in-law, Eric Rippenger and Jim Kolb. Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home under the direction of Clay Smith. Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity in Mary's honor.
