Claude G. Gillette Jr.

Claude G. Gillette Jr. age 81, of Hazen, died Friday, March 4, 2011 at Stuttgart Hospital. Claude was born in Stuttgart, Ark. on Nov. 28, 1929. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude G. and Ruby Thomasson Gillette Sr.; a sister Nan Owen and a niece, Nancy Davis. Claude was a graduate of Tulane University, a Naval lieutenant JG, a graduate of Oklahoma State University and a practicing veterinarian for 45 years. He was a member of the Partners of the Americas and he made five teaching trips to Boliva and South America. He was a member of the faculty of the Universidad Bolivianan "Gabriel Rene Moreno", where he taught and worked with the native farmer population. Claude was an active member of the Hazen First United Methodist Church and wherever he lived he sang in his church choir and taught Sunday school. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty; sons, Dr. Gabriel Gillette of West Memphis and John Gillette and wife, Marinell of Alexander, Ark.; daughters, Dorothy (Byron)Garrity of Natchez, Miss., Dr. Mary (Edward) Henkel of Stuttgart, Elizabeth (Lloyd) Fitzpatrick of Denton, Texas and nine grandchildren, Elizabeth, Stephanie, Katherine and Charles Henkel and Derrick, Sarah, Thomas,Daniel and Joseph Garrity. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, March 6, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Hazen with Rev.
