Iris Lassiter

Iris Amy Horton Lassiter, 84, of El Dorado, Arkansas, passed away March 10, 2011 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Iris was born February 13, 1927 in Sparkman, Arkansas, the second child and daughter of Thaddeus George and Iris Etta Collins Horton of Sparkman, Arkansas. She was baptized in and active in the First Baptist Church, Sparkman, Arkansas until she joined the First Presbyterian Church, El Dorado, Arkansas in 1952 where she remained an active member for 59 years. She graduated as salutatorian in 1945 from Sparkman High School, Sparkman, Arkansas and graduated with honors from Magnolia A&M College (now Southern Arkansas University) in 1947 with an Associate Arts degree. She was employed by Lion Oil Company in El Dorado, Arkansas as an administrative assistant and by the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic control specialist, stationed at the South Arkansas Regional Airport, Goodwin Field, El Dorado, Arkansas. She retired in 1990. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert Weaver Lassiter; two sisters: Agnes Ellen Tuttle Dudley and Julia Vesta Byrd; and a niece: Delia Anne Lassiter. She is survived by a daughter: Amy Lynn, and her husband, Jeffrey Wayne Shoop of Dallas, Texas; two nephews: Joseph Baker Lassiter, III and his wife, Karen, of Boston, Massachusetts and Lawrence Tuttle Tasaday of Pahoa, Hawaii; one niece: Lissa Ellen Tuttle of Topeka, Kansas; and four great nieces, one great-nephew, and Patricia Mayfield Lassiter. She was a Camp Fire Girls group leader for many years, active in the PTAs of Hugh Goodwin Elementary School, Barton Junior High School, and El Dorado High School, and a member of the Arkansas Forestry Commission. Her interests included flower gardening and arranging, sewing, and bridge. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, El Dorado, Arkansas to The Haiti Project or to the charity of your choice. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church, El Dorado, Arkansas with Dr. Dan Loomis officiating. Graveside services at Arlington Cemetery, El Dorado will be held immediately afterward. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m., Monday night, March 14, 2011 at the funeral home.
