EDITH VENABLE CRANE, age 86, of Little Rock, Ark., our beloved mother, Mamaw and G.G., died on Friday at the home of her daughter. She was a medical assistant to Dr. Millard Black and Dr. Jed Wilson until her retirement in 1994. She was chosen Medical Assistant of the Year by the members of the Pulaski County Medical Assistant Society, recognizing her outstanding services rendered. She was a charter member of the organization serving as president and held many other officer positions. She was also elected as the president of the Arkansas State Medical Assistant Society. Edith was an active member of Rosedale Baptist Church where she attended for 55 years until her illness no longer allowed her to attend. She served as President of the Women's Mission Union, teacher in the adult Sunday School Department, Director of Training Union Department and served on various committee's in the church. She was born in Roe, Ark. and grew up in Monroe, La. and attended Northwestern University. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Gayden (Bill) Crane; her parents, Bevrly and Ora Etta Singleton Venable; a special aunt, Flora Mae Singleton Street; brothers, James Edward (Ed), L.E. (Street) and Bev (Ben) Venable; sister, Marie Venable Whitman and one granddaughter, Amanda Crane. Mrs. Crane is survived by her daughter and caregivers, OraSu (Sara) and son-in-law, Lloyd Hamby; her son, James Gayden Crane Jr. and his wife, Rita of Baton Rouge, La.; sister-in-laws, Marie Venable (Ed) of Bryan, Texas, Jackie Venable (Ben) of Lockhart, Texas; brother-in-law, Henry Whitman of Bethany, Okla.; grandchildren, Chuck Hamby and his wife, Kelley, Rusty Hamby, Brice Nosal and his wife, Stoney of Fort Worth, Texas; Kyle, Hunter, Brady and Jamie Crane of Baton Rouge. Great-grandchildren, Edie and Matthew Hamby, Tyler Hamby, Chloe and Molly Nosal of Fort Worth and loved by many nieces and nephews. Our special thanks to Donna Robertson for the loving care and devotion she extended to mother during her illness. Visitation will be Monday night from 6-8 p.m. at the Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Ark. 72209 (501) 455-5800. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the Pinecrest Memorial Park Gazebo officiated by Reverend Larry Paul Venable and his son, Reverend John Venable.
