Sara Olivia Bingham Posey, age 94, of Crossett, Ark. died on Sunday, March 13, 2011 after an extended illness. She was born on November 4, 1916 in Meridian, Miss. to her parents, Oscar Everitt and Abbie Cornelia Moseley Bingham. Mrs. Posey retired as hospital administrator after 30 years of service, having been well respected for her efficiency and organizational abilities. On February 27, 1994, Olivia married Ben Posey, a first marriage for her. During their 17 years together, they enjoyed traveling and dining out with friends. Olivia was a lifetime, active member of the Crossett Book Club. She and Ben became authors, publishing a series of short stories about their lives and the history of Crossett, Ashley and Drew counties. Mrs. Posey was a member of First United Methodist Church and very active in the United Methodist Women organizations, having served in every official leadership position at one time or another and was a "fixture" on many church committees.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Nathan Everitt Bingham, George Lewis Bingham and her step-daughter, Linda Posey Fox. Survivors include her husband, John Benjamin Posey Jr. of Crossett, Ark.; her sister, Evelyn Cornelia Bingham Miller of Little Elm, TX; her sisters-in-law, Blanche Bingham of Little Rock, AR, Zona Bingham of Clayton, La.; her step-son, Dr. John B. Posey, III (Victoria) of New Orleans, La. and several very special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Russell Moore officiating. Interment will be at 1 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Monticello, Ark. under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, Ark.
